Misty – 1985

Posted on October 6, 2023 by Bill Dickens in Real News, Special, Updates -

1985 . . During sound check I was playing through an amp on my 4 string the song Misty. After about 12 bars I heard the voice of Johnny Mathis dressed in a construction uniform wearing sun glasses. He took his glasses off and it was Johnny Mathis. He dressed like that to get between flights so he could stay unrecognized. He said he had never heard anything on a bass like that in his life. Another amazing day at work.

He invited me to hang out with him and his entourage for lunch and he shared some incredible info about the business that changed my life. He also showed me how to do circular breathing while singing. After my performance with Ramsey Lewis I stayed and watched his performance and was amazed by his vocal prowess. When he used the circular breathing technique he was singing and holding notes like no other could do. It was just amazing.
